Ducted airconditioning.

Postby mung » Wed Apr 06, 2005 12:49 pm

"If I were Global Cooling I would stock"..

..ducted air conditioning units similar to the "Digitemp" range from Xpelair (But cheaper!).

Basically, the Digitemp units have no external unit, instead everything is built into the inside unit. Two ducts vent to the outside via a couple of grilles.

We have the problem at the moment that we can't install a conventional air conditioner due to planning/noise constraints.

We looked at a similar ducted unit a couple of years ago that was sold by a London based company but they stopped selling it. Unfortunately Xpelair want way over £1000 for their unit :(

If anyone has any ideas for an Installed aircon system that doesn't need an outside unit, can be DIY installed and is under £1000 per room please let me know! (We are not interested in mobile units)

Ducted

Postby Simon Savin » Wed Apr 06, 2005 1:05 pm

Hi Mung,

This area of ducting seems very specialised, I remember a company selling a product for DIY called the "lofty" that required no external condensing unit. And like you say had simply two exhaust ducts to the outside ( filtered obviously ). I think the lofty is still available, try google for lofty air conditioning.

Air conditioning without a condenser is similar in the end to a portable system by the way in which it operates. I have never been fond of condenser-less air conditioning, and doubt its efficiency is much to celebrate. However there is a market for it due to constraints as in your situation making it the only viable option, it is not however something that Global cooling Ltd. would want to include in their Millenniumair DIY range.

I would try the internet for the lofty, It was not long since I saw it advertised on a company web site.

Condenser-less

Postby Simon Savin » Wed Apr 06, 2005 1:07 pm

We do offer the ability to cool/heat individual rooms by way of condenser less air conditioning that equates to about £ 1000 per room, however as in my post above I don't rate the efficiency or indoor noise levels very highly compared to a Daikin, Mitsubishi or Millenniumair for example.

From what I can gather the Xpelair thing has the condensor built into the internal unit rather than utilising the external one.

The problem we have is with planning regulations not allowing an external unit due to the visual impact it would have and noise...hence the need for something that is internal.

Do you have a link to your 'condenserless' offering?

Edit: Just looked at the 'Lofty' on the web and it's not suitable as it requires ducts from the loft to the downstairs rooms..

The Xpelair offering looks a bit like a storage heater and contains an internal condenser. It has to be mounted on the inside of an external wall (Not a problem for us) and uses short pieces of pipe to duct through the wall to the outside world.

Condenser-less

Postby Simon Savin » Wed Apr 06, 2005 2:21 pm

Hi Mung,

Breaking away from standard air conditioners. No unsightly external condensers - 1.87 kws.

Install yourself in approx 2 hours.

Stylish self contined unit sits at floor level and only requires two vents through an external wall. An efficient and effective system that requires no external condensers or pipework normally associated with installed systems.
Externally two discret grilles covering the vents are the only evidence of the Elegance Digitemp air conditioning.

Cooling Capacity : 1.87 kw (6,380 btu)
Heating Capacity : 1.4 kws (4,800 btu)
Fan speeds : 2
Dehumidification : 0.8 L/h
Noise level (max) : 38 dbA
Noise level (min) : 22 dbA (ideal for night sleep mode)
Wall holes diameter : 110 m (4.3 ")
Height : 600 mm (23.6 ")
Width : 700 mm (27.6 ")
Depth : 275 mm (10.8 ")
Electrical Supply : 13 amp
